Why Should You Pick A Wizard?

by Erin Sistar

One of the questions we get asked is, “Why should I use a travel agent to book my vacation?” That is a really good question, thankfully the answer is simple: As a Vacation Wizard, we are constantly learning about all the ends and outs of all the top vacation spots you want to travel to. If we don’t continue to be the leading expert in everything Disney, or any other desentation, then you won’t call us back. Our goal is to have you call us back a hundred times over, and to tell all your friends and family to give us a try as well. So how do we do it? How do we stay on top of our game? What makes us the experts? One word: training. Once a year, we get together, and head on down to Walt Disney World to see what’s new and exciting first hand. Today is your lucky day. I’m going to give you an inside look on what we do at a Vacation Wizards Training Conference.

For the past 3 years, we have met up at the Coronado Springs Resort in Walt Disney World. Conference starts Thursday morning, and ends Saturday night. Our days are long, but it is an amazing fun filled learning experience not to be missed. Since we have agents from all over the country, it’s important that we get together at least once a year to learn and grow together as a family. We aren’t just a group of travel agents; we are a group of individuals who help each other out when someone is sick or out of town. We answer each other’s questions, we share spreadsheets, and, when things are looking tough, we even pray for one another.

That is why on our first day of conference, we are broken up into teams to work together on a team building exercise. It helps us to meet some of the new agents while bringing out our competitive side. Our favorite team building exercise is a scavenger hunt. That is where 40 of us run around the four different parks, and most of the different on property resorts. We take pictures and send text to prove we have found the items on our list. This exercise lasts 4 hours, and, man, does it fly by fast. I think that’s due to all the running.

When we aren’t team building, we are in a classroom or on a tour. Some of the classroom highlights include facetime with our Disney Rep. Bruce, meeting with a marketing wiz, chatting with tour guides from Adventures by Disney and the VIP program, and seeing what Buena Vista Scooters has to offer you, our clients. After classroom time, we are off to tour some of the amazing resorts that Walt Disney World. We are lucky enough to visit different categories of suites as we make our way around to the standard room category, and on the off chance that an onsite resort is not for you, we have even toured wonderful off property resorts located in the Disney Springs area.

If I had to guess, the main thing everyone looks forward to is the tour of a Disney Cruise Line ship. It is so cool that we are lucky enough to start at the top of the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy and make our way down to the main entrance on deck 3. We truly know those ships inside and out. There are 26 different room categories on these ships along with 7 different locations to eat and 11 uniquely themed bars and lounges. When it comes to entertainment, there is a state of the art movie theatre and a main stage theatre where you can see Broadway style shows. My family’s favorite part is the pools. Deck 11 has 3 different pools: a kid pool, family pool, and the adult pool. And to top it all off there are 2 splash areas, a waterslide, and an Aquaduck. After a 3 to 4 hour tour, we get to finish up with my favorite part, lunch at Cabanas on deck 11. The food on the Disney Cruise Line ships can’t be beat.

By the time Saturday evening rolls around, we are worn out but we had a lot of fun and we learn a ton of new information. Now you might be asking yourself, why would someone want to run around all of Walt Disney World pretty much non stop for 3 days? Again that another simple question to answer: we do it for you, the client. Even though Disney is magical and covered in pixie dust, planning a vacation can be stressful. Technology is constantly changing. Disney is always growing and always changing. That’s why we believe in becoming a true Disney expert, so when you are ready to see all the magic Walt Disney World has to offer first hand, don’t try to figure it out on your own! Call a wizard! Let the experts take the wheel, and you just enjoy the ride.

I have been training for this job my entire life. I planned my first Walt Disney World vacation at the age of ten. My dad planned our first trip to the park and during that experience, I completely fell in love with the magic of the parks. Since then, he has passed the torch onto me and I have been planning all of our family’s Disney vacations ever since. I have been to Disney World more times than I can count. I have also cruised with Disney Cruise Line numerous times and I won’t sail with any...
